OUR FACILITIES
At Black Loon International Millworks we have
invested over $4 million dollars in our new facility located
within the Industrial Park of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. This
65,000 square foot building is comprised of a showroom featuring
several selections from our diverse product line, our management
offices and boardroom and from there the entrance to our production
plant where it all begins
The creation of a quality wood product involves
the use of a series of machinery and the skill of specialized
craftsmen. We have no shortage of either. The process begins
in our breakout area where the raw product is stored in readiness
for production. The rough lumber is fed through a Thickness
Planer and then into a Multiple Gang Rip Saw where the strips
are then processed through a Grecon Optimizing System. This
computerized saw ensures the best yield possible from the
raw material.
While the selected pieces are moved on to the
next step in the process, any shorter pieces are sent along
to our Finger Joint Line resulting in no waste as they can
now be joined together in up to 22 foot lengths. All edges
and cutoffs are sent by conveyor belts to a wood pulverizer
where they are ground into small chips. The dust collection
system moves this material through the plant to its final
destination at our custom designed Bag House.
The processes used in the production of wood
products vary according to the item itself and the specific
needs of the customer. Many types of machinery are used including
Abrasive sanders, High frequency glue presses, double end
tenators and wide belt finishing sanders. Once the products
have been prepared for detail work they are ready for our
computerized CNC Machine Centre At this point CAD drawings
are transferred to the system for custom machining.
Our craftspeople are then put into action to
complete the final steps in the process before entering our
state of the art spray booth. Here several types of exclusive
finishes are used depending on the product to create the desired
end result.
We have devoted a section of our facility to
the production of our custom meat blocks. Available in varying
sizes and thicknesses this unique and impressive product is
of particular interest to Professional Chefs and Restaurant
Owners. We have also found that the discriminating homeowner
has been known to show a true appreciation for how this addition
to a kitchen will add to the ambience of a home. Glue spreaders,
large hydraulic presses and floor jointers are all used in
the construction of this classic item.
Our millwork department operates using some
of the aforementioned machinery and processes but has its
own unique assembly line. In this area computerized panel
saws, edge banders and the typical woodworking equipment are
all used to create products to fit the customers specific
needs. Experienced craftspeople are key to the creation of
outstanding millwork that has been commissioned by architects
and designers for use in new facilities and in the renovation
of existing facilities.
The story doesn't end here. Plans are to purchase
additional equipment that will further enhance our capabilities
and give our customers more choice and even more value for
having put their faith and trust in Black Loon Millwork International.
